Eger Wine
Region
A wine region with rich medieval history. The town of Eger is noted in
history for withstanding a heavy siege born abut Bull’s Blood, the regions most
famous wine. Called Bikavér in Hungarian, Bull’s Blood is a smooth red wine from
a blend grapes, including Kékfrankos, Cabernet Sauvignon, Medoc noir, Kékoportó,
merlot and Kadarka.
The Eger red wines are characterized by an attractive
color and a pleasant tannic acid content. Superb reds are made from individual
varieties, particularly the Merlot and cabernet Sauvignon grapes, and there are
interesting blends (like Merlot/Kékfrankos). Aged in wooden barrels in cellars
with an excellent microclimate, these wines are pleasantly velvety, full-bodied
and rich aroma. The white wines are harmonious and have a pleasant fragrance and
aroma. Among Eger’s white wines today the Sine Chardonnay and soft Olaszrizling
