Mezokovesd is a small town, 150kms from Budapest. Easy accessable by train (1:40mins around) or car (on M3 highway).

Szentendre, Easter in the skanzen

12nd-13rd April

The open air museum of Szentenre celebrate Easter in three regional units: Upper Tisza region, Kisalföld and Bakony, Balaton Highlands. Ensembles engaged in tradition conservation revive the customs of Easter time. On the festive occasion visitors are invited to attend Easter mass or service. Handicraft artists come from different parts of Hungary to show the rich traditions of Easter egg painting (by batik, engraving or applying small horse-shoes on the shell). The visitors may join them and learn these skills. Children play in the Easter-garden egg-games to honour the day: fetching, rolling, beating eggs. Others make traditional and recent but well-known Easter symbols (lamb and rabbit) out of natural materials in the play-house. In the play-yard adults and children may try their skills and strength in different popular sports and games. Puppet shows, folk music and dance-house will entertain the families during the two days. We award the winners of the competition announced in our web-site: the poets who wrote the best Easter poems. The Inn prepares traditional Easter dishes: lamb, cooked ham, horse-radish, eggs and sweet loaf.

Easy access from Budapest, by train from the nyugati train station or by boat from the boat station between the elizabeth (the white one) and the chain bridges.

Aron's Tips

I think all three programs are good, if you do not have much time in Budapest take the Skanzen at Szentendre, it can be a halfday program.
If you have more time, take Mezokovesd and stay one more day to enjoy the local spa, or go see nearby Eger
