Bekescsaba

Bekescsaba is one of the largest city in the Southern Great Plains of Hungary, with nearly 70000 citizen.
Easily accessable via train, and only a few kms from Gyula and close to Szeged, worth a day visit on your way.

The city is quite old, since the area was populated since the iron age, although Bekecsaba remains a rural town on the plains with wide streets, nice houses and a really attractive downtown area.

During a downtown walk you can discover the beautiful architectural memories of the 19th century.

National Theatre
It is on the begining of the main street of Bekescsaba.
Built in 1877-1879, a fully workable theatre nowadays.

Munkacsy memorial house
The famous painter Mihaly Munkacsy was living here during childhood.
The house were he lived is a museum nowadays.
There are not only exhibition about Mihaly Munkacsy but about the history of Bekescsaba and the small region around.

Open : tuesdays-sunday 10am till 6pm, closed on mondays

River Koros
The river Koros is flowing through the city, making a perfect romantic walking path all the way on the river side.

There are also to see many churches, sculptures in the downtown area.

By train : from Budapest Keleti there are Intercity and International trains as well. Check schedule
By car : see route from Budapest. Only 220kms
Parking fee is payable in Bekescsaba downtown! 135HUF/hour for cars
