Tiszaujvaros has advantageous geographical location as playing connecting role between three big cities, Miskolc, Debrecen and Nyiregyhaza. This small town that has about 20000 inhabitants. The town was built together with industrial facilities. It is characterized by balanced, prospering economic entourage. It achieved its actual condition after the economic and political change. The Local Authority turns significant attention to the development of tourism. The active cultural and sport life gives many facilities for everyone. These facilities fit to the mood of the nice plain, and are favourable sites for spending spare time. One of this kind is the Thermal and open-air-bath of international level, the ice-rink that is open even is summer, and the Sports Center


Downtown walk in Tiszaujvaros

A walk in the town takes you through several parks and aquares. One of the oldest parks in Tiszaujvaros is the Youth Park (Ifjusagi park). In essence it is a wide forest where you can go for a walk or possibly bbq. The playground in the middle of the forest is a perfect place for children. Walking towards the centre of town you can find the 15th March Park (Marcius 15. Park). It is in the firect neightbourhood of the Derkovits Gyula Cultural Center and the Town Library. This is nice spot of town that remains nice throughout the year. A highlight of the park is the bronze statue of the famous Hungarian poet, Sandor Petofi. THe statue was inaugurated in 1998. Next to the park is the symbolic Water Tower. Travelling further into the city, next to the Municipality is the City Hall Square. You can hear the bells chiming every hour. Several prominent events are helf in the square every year from May to September. While in the square you can take notice of the lake and its spectacular decoration of fountains. Just next to the lake is the statue of Tree of Life (Eletfa).

Passing the decorated Lake and walking over the town's symbolic stucco bridge, you enter the youngest park in town. In addition to the charming fountain, the green park is enriched with several status like the St. Steven and the Olefin and the Three Hills.

From the park you can see the Roman Catholic and the Calvinist churches.

After a long walk you can enter any of the cafes, fine resturants of the town, or if you are not tired , try the thermal bath and open pool or do some sport. You can ice skating in summer as well on the town's famous sportcentre. And Tiszaujvaros is an ideal place to discover Hortobagy region or even some part of Northern Hungary.

from Budapest direction
By car use M3 highway its coming straight to Tiszaujvaros. By toll ticket online!
By train : from Budapest Keleti station catch and Intercity train to Miskolc, than change to Tiszaujvaros. check timetable
from Slovakia direction
by car, go until Miskolc north, take M3 highway to Debrecen direction, take Tiszaujvaros exit
by train : change at Miskolc train station to Tiszaujvaros
By plane : check flight schedule to Kosice (slovakia) airport (140kms).
