Wine cellars and Bukkalja wine
district
Bogacs is part of Bukkalja wine district, in the middle of Eger
and Tokaj wine regions.
The wine district was created in 1970. Thirty years
were of course not enough to create a distinctive image for the wine district.
The wine growers are trying instead to sell their wines to the producers of
other wine regions, although they have all the necessary natural conditions
needed for producing good wine. The area of nine hundred hectares ranges from
the border of the Eger wine region as far as the outskirts of the town of Miskolc.
Major wine growing villages are Bogacs, Cserepfalu, Cserepvaralja and Tibolddaroc. In these four
villages alone, we can find more than two thousand wine-cellars, in some places
hollowed into the tufa one on top of the other. The popular row of wine-cellars
in Bogacs is located in the Cserepi street. Cserepi street is only 5min walk
from the thermal bath on the way to Cserepfalu.
