Egerszalok is located among the foothills of the Bukk mountain, only 6kms from Eger and 120kms from Budapest. It is a very quiet, small village with 1800 inhabitants: ideally suited for recreation and relaxation. Village at the north-eastern foot of the Matra Hills. The castle was built before 1320 at a height of 276 m above the village. Both the wall sections of the lower castle and the castle well can be seen and there is a passage carved into the rocks, leading to the upper castle. Lake Nyírjes, one of the most interesting peat moss moorland of Central Europe is situated west of Sirok. Important programmes of the settlement: The Castle Days of Sirok (at the third weekend of June), Crafts Camp of Fine Arts (in the first two weeks of July), International Motorcyclists´ Meeting ( the last week of July) and the National Meeting of Folk Choirs ( 20th August).

How to get there

By bus From Eger there are direct buses
By car on highway M3 to Miskolc direction. Take exit near Fuzesabony to Eger, than to Sirok direction, only around 20kms from Eger

Aron' Tips

Sirok is an interesting place to visit, specially the castle. The road was recently rebuilted, so you can climb up to the hilltop easily. The castle is in ruins, but still magnificent. A must see place if you are near Eger
