About Northern Hungary
Northern Hungary
If we stop at the highest peak of Hungary, at the 1014-meter high Kekesteto and we look down on the land below us, we can see a wonderful view. Mountain peaks covered with forests line up as far as the horizon and basins eroded by rivers lie among them. We seem to see rows of wine-plants on the gentle slopes and the steeples glimmering through the distance indicate the workmanship of men. We rightly feel: Every step brings new experience! The mountains bordering Hungary from the north is captivating already at first sight. And if we yield to the temptation and we start ranging through the winding roads, we become attached to this place for ever. We can admire both tiny, several hundred-year old churches and cathedrals with cloudwards steeples. We can find accommodation in hotels meeting the most exquisite demands and in idyllic village cottages; we can see the ruins of castles defying the elements and centuries and dignified baroque palaces decorating the towns. We become fascinated by lowly whispering brooks with silvery glitter or by silky rivers but also by caves and mountain lakes. We can relax and get cured in hot springs. We become captivated by herds galloping on the verdant plateau and we can catch sight of our rare and protected bird, the sakeret in its nest on the rock. This land is the home of famous wines and fabulous traditional dresses. The inestimable natural and cultural values of this land rightly became parts of World Heritage.
