Balatonfured

Balatonfured is one of the best known places at Lake Balaton on the northern shore of the lake. The town looks back on a history of more than two thousand years, as it was inhabited as early as the Roman era. It became truly significant in the 19th century, when it was considered as one of the most important centres of culture and social life in the country. Famous poets, writers and politicians spent their summers and found recreation here. Its attractiveness is due to its beautiful location, the healing power of its carbonated springs, the fine, aromatic wines grown in the Uplands, and above all, to the hospitality of the people who live here. So there are lot to see in the city, not only the lake itself.

Sourwater of Balatonfured

Can be found at Gyogy square, at the Lajos Kossuth Spring.
The fame and greatness of Balatonfured have been earned by the carbonated springs rushing up here and their utilization for centuries. The medicinal water of balatonfured is today used for healing mainly heart and circulatory diseases and treating general exhaustion as a bathing treatment. As a drinking treatment, it is effective against gastric influenza, diseases of the bile and the intestines as well as diabetes. Climatic factors - such as the balanced temperature, peace, the fresh air, the calming effect of the region with its harmoniously beautiful scenery and of the surface of the lake's water - also contribute to the effectiveness of the balatonfured treatments. The water of balatonfured contains a significant amount of minerals. It is a calcium-magnesium-hydrogen-carbonated, sulphated type of water with a significant amount of free carbon-dioxide (so-called sour water) which, in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Health (74/1999, 25th July), can be classified as mineral water if drunk or used for bathing. The National Spa and Health Resort Management classified the sour water of balatonfured - in case of each of the three deep-boring wells - as 'acknowledged and natural mineral water'.balatonfured
