Badacsony
For hundreds of years poets, novelists and painters have been calling the Badacsony and its vicinity the most beautiful landscape in Hungary.
The basalt mountains of the area are not only unique and picturesque geological relics, they are also the habitat of many rare plants and animals. In addition to the natural values it is worth to mention the vineyards dating back to the Roman times, the architectural relics of the hills and villages: ruins of castles, churches, palaces, as well as the relics of popular architecture.
On the rocks and in the forests of the basalt hills several rare birds nest: raven, red footed falcon, rock bird etc. In the reeds below the Szigliget Hill the protected greylag goose breeds.
Badacsony Nature Trail
The study path provided with information boards in Hungarian and English presents the natural treasures of the volcanic hills as well as their practical usefulness.
Here you can study the wonderful basalt formations, the former mine walls, the moments of ancient geological events. The 4 km circular study trail can be visited individually. It is accessible from the Kisfaludy-house on the southern side of Badacsony hill. On request guidance is available for visitors.

Badacsony wines
Badacsony wine region was named after the Badacsony, which "witnesses" the reunion of man and nature through over two thousand years of wine culture. The vineyards on the side of the Badacsony, which dips into the Balaton like a peninsula, ripen their grape bunches in the sub- Mediterranean type of microclimate. The tempering effect of the water mass of the Lake Balaton, the retentive heat in the basalt cap of the mountain, the reflection of the sunrays from the water surface onto the mountainside and the most intensive sun radiation in the country, guarantee an unequalled high must degree, even in the most unfavourable years, and the full-bodied character, taste and bouquet of the wines.
